BEGINNER2. LESSON #6. AU MUSÉE D'ORSAY

- J’ai beaucoup aimé le musée de l’Orangerie mais le musée d’Orsay, c’est mon préféré, surtout le deuxième étage.
- Commençons par le Rez-de-chaussée.
- Tu as vu les sculptures de Rodin. Il y en a trois ici et une quatrième là-bas.
- Où sont les sculptures de Degas ?
- Elles sont au milieu des tableaux des impressionnistes, là-haut.
TRANSLATION
- I loved the Musée de l’Orangerie but the Musée de l’Orangerie is my favourite, especially the third floor.
- Let’s start by the first floor.
- Did you see Rodin’s sculptures ? There are three here and a forth one over there.
- Where are Degas’s sculptures ?
- They are among impressionists’ paintings, upstairs.

Surtout : especially.
Troisième : third.
Quatrième : forth.
Etage (masc.) : floor.
Sculpture (fém.) : sculpture.
Au milieu de : among.
Impressionniste (masc.) : impressionist.
Là-haut : up, upstairs.
In French, rez-de-chaussée means the ground floor. That one that American usually call First floor. Litterally, rez-de-chaussée means « the floor that is next to the street ». In French, premier étage is the first floor upstairs, deuxième étage is the next one, and so on.

The Musée d'Orsay , housed in the former railway station, an edifice built between 1898 and 1900. It holds mainly French art dating only from 1848 to 1915, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography.

Translate in English :
1. La pêche est mon fruit préféré.
