TRANSLATION
- Sandrine agreed to baby-sit both children. How lucky !
- Something tells me it’s not the last time..
- Let’s go to the museum.
- With pleasure. Which one ?
- There’s an exhibition on Renoir at the musée de l’Orangerie.
- But there’s an exhibition on Cézanne at the Musée d’Orsay.
- First one is close.
- Second one is bigger.
- You know what. Let’s do both.
Accepter : to agree.
Musée (masc.) : museum.
Lequel, laquel : which on.
Exposition (fém.) : exhibition.
Premier, première : first, first one.
Deuxième, second, seconde : second, second one.
Les deux : both.
These forms are feminine ones : ordinal numbers agree in gender and in number with the noun they refer to.

Let’s now have a look at these ordinal numbers :

Premier, première

1er, 1ère

First

Deuxième ou second, second

2ème, 2nd, 2nde

Septième

Notice it’s easy to form these numbers. Except for the first one, we take the cardinal number, we drop its –e if it has one then we add –ème.
And we add le, la or les just before the number.

In French we don’t have such a word as both. To express it, we often use : les deux (which is OK for both masculine and feminine).
Sometimes we can also use tous les deux (masculine form) or toutes des deux (feminine form).
Sandrine a accepté de garder les deux enfants.
Faisons les deux.
