Here we have lots of interrogative sentences.
And these questions are less casual than the ones we saw before.

Look at them :
Que s’est-il passé le 8 Mai 1945 ?
Pourquoi la guerre s’est-elle arrêtée ce jour-là ?
Pourquoi ont-ils abandonné ?
Ne pouvez-vous rien me dire d’autre ?

What do you notice ?

Verbs and subject are always inverted and joined by an hyphen. Most of these sentences begin with an interrogative word.
Que s’est-il passé le 8 Mai 1945 ?
Pourquoi ont-ils abandonné ?

Sometimes we may have two subjects in the same sentence. That seems a quite complicated way to ask question but it’s very common.
We put the subject then the verb then a pronoun that repeats the subject then the end of the sentence.
Pourquoi la guerre s’est-elle arrêtée ce jour-là ?

If we want to ask a question which is also a negative sentence we put the two-part adverb (here ne…rien) around the verb. The sentence can begin with ne exactly as in this exemple.
Ne pouvez-vous rien me dire d’autre ?
Translate in French :
1. What happened on the 4th of July ?
2. You had an entire course on this subject.
3. It’s true. It’s not wrong.

Translate in English :
1. Que sais-tu faire ?
2. Les américains sont plus forts que les allemands.
3. Pourquoi as-tu abandonné ?

What do you understand ?
