BEGINNER1. LESSON #47. AU RESTAURANT

Au restaurant :
- (Le serveur) Madame, monsieur, voici les menus. Désirez-vous un apéritif ?
- (Marie) Non merci.
TRANSLATION
At the restaurant :
- (Waiter) Sir, madam, here are the menus. Would you like an appetizer ?
- (Marie) No, thank you.
- (Jean) Do you see something that pleases you in the menu ?
- Maybe meat.
- I like fish as much as meat. I prefer them grilled and without any sauce. Careful with the flour !
- I understand. What about vegetables ?
- As long as they don’t serve me pasta, everything is all right. But let’s talk about something else.
Apéritif (masc.) : drink, appetizer.

In this lesson, we can review what we learnt in the precedent one about personal pronouns that change form when there are not subjects.
We have here new examples :
Quelque chose te plaît dans le menu ?
Tant qu’ils ne me servent pas des pâtes, tout va bien.

Notice that the negation adverb ne is placed just between the subject and the pronoun. That the rule with object pronouns.

Let’s see now the next forms as long as we have here one of them :
Je les préfère grillés et sans sauce.
Les refers here to fish and meat, it’s the translation of English pronoun them.
