- Ce n’est pas toujours facile d’élever une petite fille seul.
Heureusement, mes parents m’aident beaucoup.
Ils habitent au sud de Paris, à Sèvres.
Je vais souvent là-bas avant d’aller à l’hôpital le mercredi et le dimanche.
Mais je ne travaille pas tous les dimanches.
- It’s not always easy to raise a little girl alone.
Fortunately, my parents help me a lot.
They live south of Paris, in Sèvres.
I often go there before driving to the hospital on Wednesday and Sunday.
But I don’t work every Sunday.
We don’t have any direct translation for to drive to somewhere so we usally use the verb aller or emmener.
I drive you to the airport = Je t’emmène à l’aéroport.
I’m driving to the hospital = Je vais à l’hôpital.
Toujours : always.
Facile : easy.
Elever : to raise, to grow.
Heureusement : fortunately.
Aider : to help.
Sud (masc.) : south.
Souvent : often.
Là-bas : There.
Avant : before.
Mercredi : Wednesday.
Dimanche : Sunday.
In the previous grammar point, we spoke about the preposition à. Here it is again !
Ils habitent au sud de Paris, à Sèvres.
Je vais souvent là-bas avant d’aller à l’hôpital

That’s the same à that expresses a location. We already saw that we can find it with the name of a city with the verb habiter. We often use it with the verb aller, too.
Je vais à l’hôpital, je vais à l’école, je vais à la boulangerie.

Attention ! Au is the contraction of à le that we can’t say in French. Each time we have à le, we replace it with au.
Ils habitent au sud de Paris.

Là-bas is an adverb of place. It means over there.

In this lesson, we met avant (before). Let’s learn après (after) too. It can be useful, don’t you think ?
